The Portage Community School District has six elementary schools, one junior high, and one high school. There are also two charter schools.
Approximately 2,560 students attend the school system, with over 96% graduating with an ACT score competitive with surrounding districts.
Instructional ratio is 12:1, and new educators participate in a mentoring program which focuses on increasing student learning through the use of
varying instructional strategies. Portage teachers participate in training and programs including several Comprehensive School Reform grants.
Special needs students are served through a variety of programs, and the school district also offers all day kindergarten, a four-year-old
kindergaraten program, and a variety of summer school programs. Portage is also home to a Madison Area Technical College campus.
