The Patent Board has released the 2008 edition of its Universities Patent Scorecard, which ranks 122 U.S. schools on a variety of measures that assess patent activity. It includes the gross number of all utility patents obtained from July 2007 to June 2008. Other ranking categories include technology strength, industry impact, and innovation cycle time.
Overall rankings reflect a combined weighting of all these and other factors. The scorecard also includes 5-year averages in each category.
Schools rounding out the top ten are the University of Texas, New York University, the University of Central Florida — which jumped from 21st to 8th, the University of Wisconsin, and Harvard University.
