The Madison Region boasts a wide portfolio of vital industries, from our manufacturing base in Rock County (with notable giants
GM and
Kettle Foods) to our light manufacturing industries (including internationally-recognized
Trek Bicycles in Jefferson County and
TomoTherapy in Dane County).
The region's robust key base sectors help keep these industries strong. We are notably strong in construction; light manufacturing; trade, transportation and utilities; financial services; health care; and professional services. Other markedly strong industries of the region include leisure and hospitality; education and health; and public administration.
The region also boasts some of the richest farmland in the world, reflected in our tremendous agricultural industry advances and bumper exports in dairy and dairy by-products, artisan cheeses and the notable worldwide increase in cranberry consumption.
Because we are operating from a position of inherent strength across our economy, our industries and our key base sectors, Thrive focuses on a
target sector strategy: to grow and retain target sectors that deliver on our natural assets and opportunities. Thrive's target sectors are: biotechnology, agriculture and health care; our regional "sweet spot" is their areas of convergence: bio-agriculture and bio-medical.
Our primary focus is to maintain strength in our key base sectors while we pursue a "grow your own" strategy within our target sector areas. This allows us to proactively shape our efforts on strategies based on our regional assets and opportunities while maintaining and enhancing the quality of life in the region.
Whatever your business, it thrives in the Madison Region.
