Monona Terrace is losing events because there are not enough hotel rooms associated with it, Greater Madison Convention and Visitors Bureau President and CEO Deb Archer is telling city officials, and they are saying a new hotel could be built on city land.
Mayor Dave Cieslewicz told a meeting of the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday that the surface parking lot and greenspace behind the Madison Municipal Building would be a good site for another hotel or an expansion of the Hilton Monona Terrace, a 240-room hotel at 9 East Wilson St. that opened in 2001.
