Set in the scenic, rolling hills of southern Wisconsin, Green County sits squarely, almost dead-center, on the Wisconsin-Illinois border. This location provides easy access to major markets in the upper Midwest and beyond. In fact, Green County is the apex of a nearly equilateral triangle formed with Milwaukee and Chicago. Dubuque, IA, Madison, WI, Freeport and Rockford, IL are less than an hour away from sites in Green County.

Agriculture in Green County, WI is responsible for $640 million in economic activity--37% and $162 million of the county's income. Green County is also home to six business and industry parks.

Green County has the largest number of cheese plants in the state--13--producing over 50 varieties of cheeses. Master cheesemakers, a designation that requires 15 years of study to achieve, comprise 25% of these cheese producers.

Green County Development Corporation Executive Director Anna Schramke was honored as a 2007 Wisconsin Innovation Champion for leadership in creating the Green County Area Entrepreneur and Inventors Club.
"It was, and still is, a perfect mix of thriving locally owned stores whose sidewalks ease down toward an active, European-style town square, mere blocks from well-maintained Victorian-era homes complete with sunflower-filled cottage gardens and the proverbial white-washed picket fences. Plus the drive from Madison, through the hills and valleys and patchwork corn and alfalfa fields, smacked of a Georgene Pomplun painting with the high-keyed orange barns and red-bricked, porch-wrapped farmhouses. Anyone who says southwestern Wisconsin is flat should take a day and go to New Glarus."
