Settled in the mid-1800s, Iowa County has a rich agricultural heritage, an abundance of natural and wildlife attractions and distinctive historical landmarks and tourist attractions, including Mineral Point, which was named one of the National Trusts' "Dozen Distinctive Destinations" of 2007.

Iowa's county seat is Dodgeville, headquarters of internationally-recognized clothing manufacturer Lands' End.
