Recruiting programs help hospitals beat numbers game

Though Sauk County and Columbia County are not experiencing a noticeable shortage of primary care physicians, a state-wide study suggests a dearth of doctors is looming.
A study released this week by the Wisconsin Hospital Association shows Wisconsin is short by nearly 375 primary care physicians across 31 counties.
Part of the reason Sauk County has avoided a shortage in recent years might be tied to its proximity to Madison and recruitment efforts. Nonetheless, experts warn a renewed focus on recruiting might be needed to ensure the local supply of physicians remains steady under a growing demand.
