This focus on community and cohesion is evident in the continued strength of the five local, provider-owned health plans. These integrated delivery systems ensure that medical coverage decisions are made locally and revenues are retained locally. Integrated delivery service models such as these also allow for tightly coordinated disease state management plans for people with chronic illness and population health measures for the entirety of the membership.
The Madison Region proudly honors our healthcare organizations that have been awarded state and national recognitions of quality. Both the Wisconsin Forward Award for Excellence and the Malcolm Baldrige National Award for Excellence have been earned by one or more of our healthcare providers. All of the provider owned health plans have been recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) with Excellent accreditations.
The major health care providers in the Madison Region also participate in efforts such as the Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality (WCHQ), the Leapfrog initiative, and other state and national collaborations working to publish quality and outcome data and increase transparency for consumers and purchasers. The intent of these collaborations is for residents to become more educated participants in their own healthcare.

WI health care top in nation
According to Modern Healthcare, Minnesota and Wisconsin--along with North Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska--ranked tops in the nation in "overall healthcare measure" in an annual report conducted by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). The findings are based on the AHRQ's National Healthcare Quality Report, which determined that quality and patient safety are slowly on the rise.
Each state, as well as Washington, D.C., was evaluated according to 149 measures of quality.
