The Madison Region offers a wide variety of affordable housing options, including single-family, multi-family, co-housing communities, co-op rentals, condominiums, lakefront homes, assisted living, student housing, and vacation housing.
Many people work and stay in the region because of the quality of life, and part of that equation is what it costs to live here. Says Tera Johnson, CEO of Wisconsin Specialty Protein in Reedsburg, "My plant manager had a choice between this opportunity and an opportunity in California, and he chose to stay here because of the quality of life he can achieve here versus California. In his mind that goes back to things like he can afford a home here and the overall standard of living."
In the fourth quarter of 2006, median home sale prices in the Madison Region ranged from $127,100 in Dodge County to $222,000 in Dane County. Rates of homeownership in each county ranged from 57.6% to 75.9%.
