Eco-commuters happy to have route in Verona

It's 4:30 p.m., and the 55 bus is sitting at the West Transfer Point on Tokay Boulevard in Madison with three regular riders on it, all minding their own business.
Last week the Verona Common Council voted to sign two agreements -
one with Metro Transit and the other with Epic - to continue what originally was seen as an experiment for two more years.
Though it still costs more than $125,000 a year to operate the route, it's been a benefit to all parties involved, particularly because it's a relatively small investment. An "operating assistance" grant is expected to cover more than half of that operating deficit, and Epic pays the remainder for what amounts to a federally subsidized recruiting tool.
