Healthcare

The Madison Region enjoys a superb level of medical services and accessibility, with more than 1,000 companies providing direct healthcare services to our population. Our nationally-recognized providers in both community-focused healthcare organizations and academic and research institutions deliver a full spectrum of well-coordinated care.

Several of the region’s health systems have earned the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award – a performance award given by the president – including Mercy Health Systems in Rock County, St. Clare Hospital & Health Services in Sauk County, and St. Mary’s Hospital in Dane County. The University Health System Consortium named UW Hospitals & Clinics one of the top five best-performing teaching hospitals in the country in 2008, while U.S. News & World Report ranked UW Hospitals & Clinics among the nation’s top hospitals in four specialties, including cancer.

A full 90% of Madison Region residents have health insurance,  many of them participating in top-rated health plans. In 2008, U.S. News & World Report rated Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin, Unity Health Plan, and Dean Health Plan among the top 50 health plans in the nation.

Healthcare remains a leading advantage in the Madison Region, lending itself fully to our superior quality of life. One of the best places to live in Wisconsin? Undoubtedly.
